The Château de Villandry near Tours is an emblematic example of these treasures of refinement. Reconstructed from ancient texts, its formal gardens are organised in geometric plots that form embroidery patterns. The decorative vegetable garden is particularly impressive with its nine squares that vary in colour depending on the vegetables planted. Amongst other extraordinary gardens, take the time to visit those of the Châteaux du Rivau, Valmer or the orangery of the Domaine Royal du Château Gaillard.

Among the other sights of Touraine are the Troglodytes, the caves dug into the tufa rock to extract the stones used to build the châteaux. Some of these caves have been integrated into houses, others are used as mushroom beds. You can visit several sites including the troglodytic valley of Goupillières, 45 minutes from the hotel.
